That was great! Kudos to you and your ten year-old son for the production work. I see many great videos in your future. It was fun to see and meet Charlotte. Thanks for posting and you know we'll now all be hooked to see more. Keep 'em coming Theresa!

Hi Joe-
Thanks so much. My son had fun doing the video. When I thanked him for being my "photographer" he corrected me and said, "A photographer takes regular camera pictures Mom. I'm that other word."
"Cinematographer?", I asked.
"YES! I am now a cinematographer!"
Oh boy...I think I'm in trouble now.

Hi Theresa,
Welcome to the wonderful world of video! I enjoyed your friendly personality and ease in front of the camera. What a beautiful chicken you have there!
"Green Thumbs" up to your son's work.

Thanks Shirley - That means a lot coming from you! You are the expert.
I actually have done quite a bit of video/TV work in my past (cooking shows & gardening shows) -- but nothing recently.
Charlotte is a looker! It will be fun to see her grow up.
Thanks so much for checking her out!

Your son did a great job filming - better than I would have done (I tend to shake the camera)! =)
Charlotte's darling (love her coif)! 4 months is pretty good...most of our chickens don't lay until they're 5-6 months old.
It was good to "see" you, Theresa! :>

Hi Teresa-
Well, you would know better than I when she will lay. I bow to your expertise. I was going by what someone told me that had one. But perhaps their Polish was smarter than the average chick! LOL
I will tell my son about your compliment to his camera skills.
You know they say never work with kids or animals when filming...Oops! Guess I blew that on my first GFL video post.
I will keep you posted on when Charlotte starts making eggs!

Teresa,
I love, love, love this segment! I so want to have chickens...maybe in the future. Had no idea that some of them like to be held. Even more reason for me to get a couple!

LOL! Yeah, you incorporated the two big no-nos for your first video, didn't you?
I hope Charlotte will lay sooner than we expect; it does happen, you know! :)

Wow! I had no idea chickens could be pets. She is so pretty in a Dr. Seuss sort of way. You make raising chickens look really fun. Good Luck with them and kudos to your 10 year old for a job well done. Thanks for introducing Charlotte.

Hi Jean Ann-
You simply MUST get chickens. With all the gardening you do, you will love having the extra nitrogen in your compost bin! Just do a little research to see what breeds meet your lifestyle. Many of them are known for being cuddly!

Howdy Teresa from Gardening with Soule!
Thanks. I have been telling my 10 year old that everyone liked his camera work. Now my 8 year old son wants to try...so who knows how the next video will be! LOL
I just love your comment that Charlotte is pretty in a "Dr. Seuss sort of way". You nailed it! She should be in a children's book. When people see her, they ALWAYS smile and laugh. She is a cutie pie.

I'm hooked! I heard chickens want to roost in trees and garages and run amuk in general. True or fable? How 'bout interaction with other pets? (currently just our 11 pound yorkie/poodle). Did you build your coop? source?
Note: in Fair Oaks, near Sacramento, they have marvelous chickens roaming the streets.

Hi Jeannie-
I ordered that coop from www.greenchickencoop.com and they were so nice! I highly recommend them.
My chickens do not try to roost in trees or garages and do not run amuk. BUT, I picked my breeds carefully. Some chickens are more tame than others. One place to read about the different breeds is at www.mypetchicken.com. I picked breeds known for being calm and good with kids. Of my three breeds, I found the Polish to be the sweetest. But I know many other people who have other "favorites". Just research before you buy!
