In two weeks (on November 15th), I'm speaking at the Region VI meeting of the Garden Writer's Association. I'm on a panel discussion with Billy Goodnick and Cindy McNatt and we are discussing how we have achieved "FAME AND FORTUNE" with our blogs. (As you can imagine, it is a tongue in check title.) We will actually be talking about how blogging and social media can lead to bigger and better things in the writing and landscape designing world.
Billy writes for Fine Gardening Magazine, and the Garden Wise Guy blog, Cindy writes Dirt du Jour and I blog here. We have all have been asked if we make any money from our blogs and we do...in indirect ways. So this panel discussion will be about how our blogs have lead to the promotion of our brand, our message and how we have managed to bring in a few bucks in the process. Twitter and Facebook will be part of the discussions as well.
This GWA regional meeting is a joint effort with the local chapter of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and will be hosted at the beautiful Stone Manor gardens. The gardens overlook Paradise Cove in Malibu. Breathtaking views are on the agenda. Do come!

My garden blog is all things Garden Design. Complementing house & life. So potent it needed a name, Vanishing Threshold.
Begun in 2007 it's attracted new clients and an interview with HGTV. Ha, they contacted me. When asked how they found me, "Your blog" was the answer.
Also, PUPPET BARBUDA, appears on my blog as the Roger Ebert of Landscape Design. I should really let her out to play more often!!
All of the good things due to my blogging are ironic. It was started as a reference point for my DIY clients.
Have fun lecturing. Can't wait for your blog post afterward.

Your experience is exactly what we are talking about at the meeting. A blog can be a great vehicle to other things and THAT is how you make money.
Your blog is a perfect example of how your writing effort can serve two purposes: promoting your brand and connecting you to money making venues.
The event in Malibu might be filmed for Garden World Report. If so, I will be posting a link to the show and you can watch it on line.
